Homework:

  • Play one round of disk golf (DH) or take photographs of your site (any concrete pad on Mount Royal Ave) from as many locations as you can (MR). (1 hour)
  • Use two tools on two separate days by next class with which you are least familiar or think will be most useful to your work. (15 min). Tu+W next week. Other shops on campus, all in one day if not possible on two consecutive days. Find the schedule for Fox wood shop and for FLIV wood shop.
  • Start thinking about ideas for sculpture at these sites. Drawings and models due in two weeks.

  • Read Rhino Training Manual Level 1, Part One (Chapters 1-2) (30 min)
    • If you already read it, take a look through Command List By Chapter under “resources=>Rhino” on my web page. Refer to the manual on any unfamiliar commands
  • Watch Tom Sachs 10 bullets on YouTube (15 min)

  • Attempt to draw some components from your model in Rhino and prepare them for laser cutting.
  • Extra Credit: Try to trace important information from your site Rhino from Google Earth using your measurements from today to set the scale.

  • On the provided 1/8”x12”x6” piece of plywood, model a precision tool in 2d which would inform or help your studio practice. We will use this to check off on lasers next week. Come prepared to demonstrate proficiency by explaining the laser cutting process and testing in your settings appropriately for the given material. About 5 min to cut file, simple files! (30 min)
